The Sam EVENSON Family Reunion is held every five years 90, 95, 00,
05 at the old Evenson family farm east of Walker, MN. The reunion date is
the first full weekend in August and for 2005 it will be on August 5,
6 & 7 -
Ancestry includes Hans Evenson who came from SouArdaul Norway in 1856 (connected
to Sorum Farm) and settled in Bluemound, Wisconsin, with his teenage daughters
(Gunhild, Cari and Thora and infant son Hans. His old farm adjoins Little
Norway, a tourist attraction near Bluemound..
His second son Sam, was born in Bluemound - as was another daughter
Inger Marie. At age 20, Sam moved to Pope county Minn. (along with his older
brother Hans) where he married Inger Disrude (also from SouArdaul, Norway)
they eventually settled in Cass County (5-miles east of Walker) on farmland
that had been purchased from the indians (can't remember the tribe, but they
were the only indians who insisted that the tribal members could own and
sell their land).
So far we have directly connected over 550 relatives living in the
U.S. and all are encouraged to come to the Family Reunions - of these we
have had as many as 320 show up at one time.
